Purpose
Williams College believes our community should be truly open for everyone. As such, we are committed to providing a friendly, safe, and welcoming environment for all, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, disability, ethnicity, race, or religion.
This code of conduct outlines our expectations for participant behavior as well as the consequences for unacceptable behavior while on campus.
We invite all staff, volunteers, attendees, local community members, and other participants to help us realize a safe and positive Reunion for everyone.
Expected behavior
Be considerate and respectful of all people and property while on Williams’ campus.
Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior and speech. Be mindful of your surroundings and of your fellow participants. Alert Williams staff or event organizers if you notice a concerning situation and if you feel there is an emergency, contact Campus Safety and Security at 413-597-4444
Unacceptable behavior
Unacceptable behaviors include intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory, or demeaning conduct by any attendees of Williams Reunion and related events.
Harassment may include: offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, race, age, religion, disability; inappropriate use of nudity and/or sexual images in public spaces (including presentation slides), inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.
Other unacceptable behaviors include deliberate intimidation, stalking, photographing or recording an individual against their wishes, and disruption of talks or other events.
Consequences of unacceptable behavior
Unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated whether by other attendees, organizers, staff, volunteers, sponsors, or other campus community members.
Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately.
If a participant engages in unacceptable behavior, Williams staff and administration may take any action they deem appropriate, up to and including expulsion from Williams Reunion without warning or refund.
What to do if you witness or are subject to unacceptable behavior
If you are subject to unacceptable behavior, notice that someone else is being subject to unacceptable behavior, or have any other concerns, please notify the Reunion staff team by contacting 413-597-4455. If you are witness to or involved directly in an emergency situation, please contact 911 or campus safety and security at 413-597-4444
Scope
We expect all Reunion participants (volunteers, staff, student rangers, speakers, attendees, and other guests) to abide by this code of conduct at all campus venues and Reunion-related events.
Drugs and Alcohol
Williams College expects responsible use of alcohol and respect for everyone attending Reunion.
Since the Reunion is designed to be a family friendly event, the Reunion alcohol policy is as follows:
- Alcohol may be served and consumed by those of legal drinking age on College property between 2pm and midnight each day during the Reunion Weekend.
Everyone is expected to consume responsibly and at all times to respect college property, staff and all event participants. - Alcohol paid for by class accounts must be served in compliance with the college’s alcohol service standards by TIPS trained servers who carry the required insurance.
- No person may purchase or provide alcohol to any attendee under the age of 21.
- No attendee under the age of 21 may consume alcohol at any time during the Reunion.
In accordance with federal law, the use or possession of marijuana, or any other illicit substances is not permitted on campus.
Williams College is a smoke-free campus. Smoking is not permitted anywhere in College buildings, including student rooms or within 25 feet of a College building.
Safety and Health
Weapons of any description, fireworks, and any other incendiaries are not permitted on campus.
