Coming from Virginia I probably heard “Williams and Mary?” as much as anyone! But Williams was my first choice, and I’ve never regretted it. But my a-ha moment came 25 years after graduation. I caught a plane back to DC the Sunday of Reunion Weekend. As I stowed my bag, I realized that my seatmate was Hedrick Smith ’55. A Pulitzer and Emmy winner. I’d seen him at DC events but had never been introduced. He looked over and said, “You and your class did a great job yesterday. Congratulations."
By the time we reached DC, the swelling of my head had subsided enough to squeeze out of the plane!
